  • Who is the favorite?

    • South Effingham. They are the defending champs. They beat the #2 seed Glynn Academy in last week’s region finals and have all the pieces to make another run to the title.

  • Will we see a rematch if South Effingham and Glynn Academy final?

    • Yes, but I’m less certain of this prediction than I am of Camden vs. Buford. Glynn Academy is solid in the #2 seed, but Creekview is a tough #3 seed and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them give Glynn all they can handle. Same is true for South Effingham up top … the path isn’t simple. Pope and North Forsyth are both good squads that will look to cause chaos.

  • What's the best first-round dual?

    • With Robby DeHaven and Christian Bell it is Woodward Academy vs. Glynn Academy. I don’t know if we’ve seen either of them compete this season - so if they are not in the lineup then the best matchup could be Jackson County vs. Tift County.

  • What individual matchups are you looking forward to (we are going with a 1st round potential matchup because we don’t know if the other teams will even see one another):

    • Hunter Kegley of Glynn vs. Heath Augustyn of Woodward Academy

    • Other matchups that might or might not happen given how everything plays:

      • Domynic Thompson of Jackson County vs. Reece Meyers of North Forsyth

      • Phil Cuttino of Glynn Academy vs. Aaron Campbell of Creekview

      • Daymon McFarlin of South Effingham vs. Colin Kelly of North Forsyth

  • Who's the darkhorse (not a top 4 seed that will end up in the top 4)?

    • The top 4 seeds are:

      • South Effingham, Glynn Academy, Creekview, and North North Forsyth

      • The team with the best shot to make the top 4 that isn’t one of those teams is … Woodward Academy (if Bell and DeHaven are in the lineup they will be a tough out with Reel, Augustyn, Spalding, and others taking a ton of points as well). With Bell and DeHaven, Woodward is a real darkhorse to win it all.

How this could play out:

Pure speculation:

  • South Effingham has wrestled like the top 6A team all season - no reason to expect this weekend to be any different.

  • The bottom side is tough with Glynn Academy and Creekview - if you add in a full Woodward Academy team (not sure we’ve seen a time this season with all of them in the lineup) then you get some of these potential matchups:

  • That makes for a very interesting bottom side. The teams on the bottom side will come to compete, but if those are the lineups we get from those three programs expect there to be some great duals (just like we always see in 6A) - don’t be surprised to see Cavanaugh step in at 132 for Woodward to allow Spalding to bump to meet Cuttino. Lots could happen in these duals.

  • Right now no one is talking about Dunwoody, Pope, and one or two others … will that be different when all is said and done?
