State of the Program ... Osceola (FL)

By this time - many of you have seen that we are doing highlights of different teams across the SE as we gear up to drop the team previews in 7 weeks. I was releasing one team a day, but with now over 140 teams having sent in information - I’ll try to ramp it up a bit so we can get as many in as possible before the first part of October. I can’t guarantee I’ll get to everyone, but I will try to get to as many as possible. Please re-visit when the actual previews get dropped in October because what I am sharing below are just a few of the names the coaches have given me. Much more will be shared - plus SEWrestle’s “What to Expect” - in the team previews.

Osceola (Florida)

Coach Jim Bird returns for year 29 and the Kowboys have one of the perennial powers in 3A over that time. The Kowboys lose Jaekus Hines and a few other hammers to graduation, but will once again reload and make a run at the 3A title. The group is led by returning State Champs Cooper Haase and Gunner Holland as well as State Runner-up Anderson Heap.

For this group of Kowboys to overtake South Dade or the other 3A powers - they will need the following to step up in 2022. Look for Caleb Negron, George Duncan, and Bryan Gari to make a name for themselves in 2022.

Kealonie Vega and Paris Martinez will lead the way on the girls side as the FHSAA “may” sanction their first-ever girls state tournament in 2022.

Osceola had a great off-season and we look to continue to get better. We have some holes but we expect to develop a few wrestlers so they can be ready for post season. I think we have 5 that are going to be hard to beat, 2-3 that have a chance to qualify and we always have one that will surprise the world almost every year. Our region is going to be crazy so we will have to be ready.
— Coach Bird

Look for other teams to be highlighted over the next 7 weeks.

WE NEED YOUR HELP … We are in the process of collecting as much information as possible and would love for coaches to reach out and share their information. If you are a coach and would like to provide that information please click the “Team Preview” button below to be sent to a survey.
