GHSA Info - new weights for 2022-2023

The GHSA State Executive Committee voted Monday to approve the Girls Wrestling Proposals for the 2022-23 SY. Girls teams and individuals when competing will now have 20 playing dates and 14 weight classes. During the 2023-24 SY, Girls will become a Dual Gender sport in which girls will only wrestle girls.

Each school will be accessed $2.00/wrestlers at the Wrestling State Championships. Also, the Girl's Wrestling Area assignments are attached and will be posted on the GHSA website.

The new weight classes for Boys and Girls is listed below. Just a reminder the Request fro Proposals for Area, Sectional and Dual State Championships are due by April 15, 2022.

The committee RECOMMENDED:

  1. Proposal to increase the number of playing dates in girls wrestling from six to 20 in 2022-23 school year, moving towards wrestling becoming a true Dual Gender sport by 2023-24 school year. (Vote: 7-0) Motion Passed (Unanimously)

  2. Proposal to increase the number of weight classes when girls are wrestling other girls from the current 10 to 14. (Vote: 7-0) Motion Passed (Unanimously)

  3. Proposal to assess a fee of $2.00 per participating wrestler at the State Traditional Meet to help offset the cost of rental and cleanup of the facility. (Vote: 7-0) Motion Passed (Unanimously)
