On, paper this could be one of the best teams Washington has had. Seven wrestlers qualified for the 2023 State Tournament and all seven have an opportunity to return and make another run for the top step. This is also a well-balanced team with a nice mixture of senior leaders, returning sophomore state qualifiers, and a bevy of talent throughout the lineup. Washington also brings in four freshmen to watch … Sam Boltes at 106, Bryce Perry at 113, Tucker Massie at 113-120, and Camden Ward at 120-126. Washington has all of the pieces in place to make a run in 2024. But a few things must happen for them to be in the conversation. First, four of their qualifiers did not win a match at the state tournament in 2023 … that must change if Washington is going to be in the hunt. Gabe Foreman and Braxton Woolard both won matches state tournament and getting those two on the podium with returning place Bryant Smith will be huge. Second, the other pieces … down low from 106-120 and up top 190-285 will need to come together. Washington is stout in the middle - how will the ends of the lineup compete? Washington has the makings of an elite team in 2024 - how high will they climb? - SEWrestle
