If you are Coach Abernathy, I would think you would be pleased with the trend of the state qualifier graph above. From no qualifiers 4 years ago to 5 in 2023 and an Upper State Semifinal appearance in duals … this team is moving into the conversation in 5A. Now a dose of reality … the Jackets graduated some serious firepower. 4 State Qualifiers including State Runner-up Mark Mulliken have moved on … leaving just Ty Bridges with state tournament experience on the roster. But that doesn’t mean the yellow jackets will regress back … it simply means that opportunities exist for others to step in and make their mark in 2023-2024. There is plenty of experience on the roster with seniors Michael Alessandrini, Tristan Carroll, Julius Norris, and Travonte Richardson as well as juniors Lex Abernathy, Jackson Walters, and Riley Lewis. Abernathy, Lewis, and Carroll all competed at the Upper State Tournament in 2023 and will look to punch their ticket to the big dance in 2024. Hanna also has a trio of freshmen to keep an eye on in Jackson Scanlon (106), Jamarion Williams (120), and Carson Cole (165) as well as others (like Kavon Cole) that will look to break into the lineup and make some noise. How high will the jackets climb in 2024? That will likely come down to how well the names mentioned above step up and fill the spots left by the departed seniors. - SEWrestle
